How long does custom framing take?

Most custom framing orders are completed in 7–10 business days. Rush options are available for urgent needs.

What is the difference between regular and museum-grade glass?

Museum glass offers 99% UV protection and anti-reflective coating with near-invisibility. Regular glass provides basic protection. We recommend museum glass for valuable art or items in bright light.

Can you frame oversized artwork or posters?

Yes! We specialize in large-format framing up to 48×72 inches (and larger by request) for posters, maps, or fine art prints.

Do you use acid-free materials for archival framing?

Yes. All our mats, backing boards, and mounting are 100% acid-free and conservation-grade to prevent yellowing and damage over time.

How much does custom framing cost?

Pricing depends on size, frame style, mat, and glass. A typical 11×14 photo in a standard frame starts around $85–$120. Get an estimate online or in-store.

Can I bring in my own frame to have something mounted?

Yes! We offer professional mounting, matting, and glass fitting for frames you already own. Bring or mail it in.

Do you offer framing for 3D objects like medals or baby shoes?

Yes—our shadow box framing service is perfect for 3D keepsakes with custom layouts, depth, and secure mounting.

Is it better to frame in-store or order online?

In-store is best for complex projects or color matching. Online is ideal for standard photos and posters using our upload & frame tool.

Do you provide hanging hardware and installation tips?

Every frame includes professional hanging hardware. We also provide wall placement guides and recommend anchors or gallery systems.

Can you match a frame I saw somewhere else?

Yes! Bring a photo or sample, and we’ll source or custom-build a matching moulding from over 2,000 in-store samples.

Custom Cut Mat Boards — Precision Archival Mat Cutting for Any Frame Size

A well-cut mat board is one of the most important (and most overlooked) components of professional framing. It adds visual breathing room around your artwork, creates separation between the image and the glass to prevent moisture damage, and elevates even a simple print to gallery-worthy status. At Modern Memory Design, we offer precision custom-cut mat boards in any size, color, and style, cut in our Hasbrouck Heights, NJ studio and shipped nationwide.

Why Use a Custom Mat Board?

Archival protection — Acid-free mat boards keep your artwork away from the glass, preventing moisture condensation and paper deterioration over time.
Visual depth & elegance — A mat draws the eye toward the artwork and makes even a simple print look polished and professional.
Universal fit — Fit non-standard artwork into any standard frame with a custom-cut opening.
Double or triple layering — Stack multiple mat colors for a sophisticated, layered look.

Custom Mat Cutting Options

Single Mat

A clean, classic presentation. Choose from white, off-white, black, or 50+ custom colors. Standard border width: 2–4 inches. Perfect for photos, posters, and fine art prints.

Double Mat

Two layers with a visible inner accent color. Creates contrast and visual depth — pair a white top mat with a navy, burgundy, forest green, or gold inner mat for a striking finish.

Triple Mat

Three layers for maximum visual impact. Preferred for diplomas, awards, fine art, and formal spaces. Often used with our diploma framing service.

Oval & Custom Shape Openings

We also cut oval, arch, circular, and custom-shaped mat openings for portrait photography, antique prints, and specialty artwork.
