Bring Your Furniture Back to Life
Reupholstery is one of the smartest investments you can make in your home. Almost any upholstered piece can be stripped, repaired and recovered, and many can be modified along the way with a new arm shape, a tighter back, a skirt removed or added, tufting or nailhead trim. The result looks completely different but keeps the frame you already own.
At Modern Memory Design's upholstery workshop in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, our craftsmen repair, restore and reupholster furniture for homes and businesses across Bergen, Passaic and Essex County and New York City.
Why Reupholster Instead of Replace?
Compare a sofa or chair built twenty or more years ago with most of what's sold today, and the difference is obvious. Older pieces were typically built with kiln-dried hardwood frames, doweled and glued joints, and coil or hand-tied springs. Many new pieces use particleboard, staples and thin foam. If you love your furniture's design and comfort, reupholstery keeps that quality and gives you a piece that looks and feels nearly brand new, often for less than a comparable new piece.
What We Reupholster
- Antique furniture. Traditional methods with hand-tied springs, horsehair and frame regluing (see antique restoration).
- Custom-made furniture. Designer and one-of-a-kind pieces.
- Store-bought furniture. Sofas, sectionals, recliners and chairs from any retailer.
- Sofas, chairs and dining sets. See sofa, chair and dining chair reupholstery.
- Wall upholstery. Fabric-wrapped wall panels, upholstered accent walls and headboard walls.
- Cushions and pillows. New covers sewn from fresh fabric, new foam, or both (see cushion replacement and custom cushions).
- Boats, yachts, aircraft, RVs and campers. See marine, aircraft and auto & RV upholstery.
Furniture Repair, Restoration & Wood Refinishing
Reupholstery is often only part of the job. We also handle:
- Furniture repair. Loose joints, broken rails, cracked frames, sagging springs and webbing (see upholstery repair).
- Furniture restoration and refurbishing. Rebuilding seat decks, padding and structure.
- Wood refinishing. Exposed arms, legs and frames are cleaned, touched up or fully refinished to match your new fabric.
- Modifications. Changing arm or back profiles, seat firmness, leg style or adding tufting and trim.
Thousands of Fabrics & Design Help
We source fabric, leather and vinyl from all the major U.S. fabric vendors, so you have thousands of upholstery fabrics to choose from at every price point. Manufacturer test documentation is available on request.
Not sure what you want? Show us a magazine page, a photo or a fabric swatch of a color or pattern you love, and we'll pull matching selections with the same look and feel. Or send a photo of the room where the piece will live, and we'll recommend fabrics that suit the space, your lifestyle (kids, pets, sunlight) and current trends.
