Schedule a Consultation โWhen the Artwork Matters โ Archival Framing Is Non-Negotiable
Standard framing uses materials that contain acids, off-gassing adhesives, and non-UV glass โ all of which actively damage artwork over time. Original oil paintings, watercolors, limited-edition prints, signed photographs, and estate artwork require a completely different approach: conservation framing with museum-grade materials that protect rather than destroy.
At Modern Memory Design in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, we have the expertise and materials to frame fine art properly. We consult on glazing, mat board selection, mounting methods, and frame moulding to deliver a result that a museum conservator would approve.
Archival Framing Standards We Use
๐๏ธ Museum Glass
Near-invisible anti-reflective coating with UV filtering. The clearest, most protective glazing available. Standard for original artwork and signed limited editions.
๐ Conservation Mat Board
100% cotton rag or alpha-cellulose mat board โ acid-free and lignin-free. No off-gassing, no pH migration. We don't use wood-pulp boards on valuable work.
๐ Reversible Mounting
Valuable artwork is never dry-mounted or permanently adhered. We use Japanese hinges, archival corners, and T-hinges that can be removed without damage.
๐ก๏ธ Archival Backing Board
Acid-free foam board or Coroplast backing isolates artwork from acidic materials. Sealed on all sides to prevent environmental contamination.
๐จ Premium Frame Moulding
Solid wood or metal moulding from our premium suppliers โ no hollow-core or vinyl. We carry profiles from simple floater frames to ornate carved wood.
๐ผ๏ธ Floater Frames for Canvas
Original oil paintings on canvas are floated โ not glazed โ with a visible gap between canvas and frame. The work breathes; the frame complements without overpowering.
