What size can I print my photo?
Your pixel dimensions and chosen physical print size determine effective pixels per inch (PPI). This calculator checks that relationship and explains what happens when your image shape differs from the print shape.
Crop to fill or fit the whole image?
Fill mode covers the entire print and removes excess image from the edges. Fit mode keeps the whole image and leaves blank space on two sides. The preview is a shape diagram, not a preview of your actual photo.
Example: a 3600 Ă— 2400 photo printed at 10 Ă— 8 inches
Fill mode uses a centered 3000 Ă— 2400-pixel crop, removing 16.7% of the source width and producing 300 PPI. Fit mode keeps the whole photo at 10 Ă— 6.667 inches, with about 0.667 inches of blank space above and below.
Resolution is one part of print quality
The default 300-PPI target is an editable planning reference. Sharpness, focus, compression, image processing, material, and viewing distance also affect results. A larger print viewed from farther away may use a different target. Increasing the number in an image file does not recreate missing detail.

Frequently asked questions
Is DPI the same as PPI?
PPI describes image pixels per printed inch. Printer DPI describes ink-dot output. This calculator works with image PPI.
Can a screenshot print as well as the original?
A screenshot may contain fewer pixels or more compression. Use the original full-resolution file whenever possible.
Will a high PPI guarantee a sharp print?
No. A blurry or heavily compressed source can remain blurry even at high PPI. Review the actual image before printing.
Can I use the print size in the framing calculator?
Yes. After calculating, choose “Use this size for framing.” In fit mode, the print sheet and visible image dimensions differ; the framing handoff uses the full sheet size.
